Reflecting the diversity, dynamism, and energy of the rapidly reinvigorated east Melbourne area, Regent Residences is a sophisticated and sculptural form for modern inner city living.
The eight level building comprises 54 apartments and is characterised by a tough masonry podium with bronze aluminium screening responding to the surrounding heritage of industrial brick buildings.
The clever design and careful positioning provides abundant natural light and enviable east, north or west views of the city skyline. The building comprises two parts: a dark brooding masonry podium with bronze aluminium screening; and an ephemeral floating, sculpted tower shaped to respond to sun, views and the broader Melbourne context.
The scale and façade of the podium picks up on the surrounding heritage of the industrial brick buildings, while the top levels are fluidly sculpted for a soft, feminine form. Both parts combine to create a dynamic tension and energy. The generous outlook and city views draw space back into the building, with occupants able to control light and privacy through operable screening elements.
Stone, bronze aluminium, and glass are softened by touches of light timber that reflect the warmth of the building’s interiors. A light airy, neutral palette was selected, creating a crisp environment that is effortlessly cool, calm and serene while imparting a sense of pared back luxury.
