The 358-bed Carlaw Park Student Village for the University of Auckland has set a new benchmark for intensive residential living in New Zealand.

Located on the rear site of Carlaw Park and adjacent to the Auckland Domain, the student village has direct pedestrian connections to one of Auckland’s most beautiful natural parks.

The 358-bed Carlaw Park Student Village for the University of Auckland has set a new benchmark for intensive residential living in New Zealand, encouraging a strong sense of community while successfully connecting two very contrasting public destinations - the future Parnell Railway Station and the Auckland Domain Park.

The village consists of self-contained apartments with communal lounges, study spaces and amenities for students. Four building blocks are carefully orientated to maximise city and natural park views and shrouds a central outdoor plaza for student gatherings.

The extension of Nicholls Lane allows public access from Stanley Street through to the Station and onto Parnell’s shopping precinct beyond. The development bounds the edge of the rail corridor and opens out to the Auckland Domain. Its facade palette of glass and monolithic and stained textured McCullum mix concrete panels creates a bold and complimentary aesthetic within an urban and natural context.
