The University of Auckland Carlaw Campus provides high quality student housing to the Carlaw Park precinct. The 264-bed Carlaw Campus is located on the edge of the Auckland Domain. The campus massing ensures visual permeability through to the Auckland Domain and through to the existing Student Village. The accommodation blocks have been orientated to create a sense of enclosure creating passive surveillance around a central courtyard space in accordance to the masterplan for the precinct.

Carlaw Campus seeks a strong aesthetic treatment reflecting mass and sculptural qualities. Its weight and grounded approach to the design takes inspiration from the natural context of the Auckland Domain. Chamfered window reveals bring depth and shadow to the façade treatment. Its rhythmic array of tinted and non-tinted windows and honed and stained concrete finishes brings a material palette that relates to the adjacent Student Village yet different unique in its appearance.

Dark honed concrete lift and stair structures act as markers into each accommodation block. Offsetting the textured McCullum chip blocks which strongly contrast to the bold Bison coloured masses.
