Whangarei has an exciting future. The city is poised to take advantage of recent growth; its riverside increasingly becoming the place you would recognise as Whangarei’s heart.

Warren and Mahoney submitted a masterplan proposal for the development of two sites at the intersection of John and Dent Streets. It includes a new public space, commercial office buildings, a hotel with conference facilities and a new dining destination for Whangarei.

It offers an opportunity for Whangarei to create a better connected pedestrian experience, extending the new energy at the riverside into the city centre. Additionally, it presented the potential for new high quality offices, retail and hospitality spaces, adjacent to a new public plaza: a new town square.

The corner of Dent and Walton Streets is highly visible and offers an excellent opportunity to create a landmark building with a direct relationship to the Hundertwasser Wairau Maori Arts Centre.

This new precinct will encourage an active connection between currently separated parts of the city, providing clarity for pedestrians looking to explore the city.
