Walter Nash Community and Sports Centre
The Walter Nash Centre provides the community of Hutt City with a major sports and community venue. Linking to the existing Walter Nash Stadium, the new three court indoor sports facility is the first, fully integrated recreation and community based facility in the Wellington region. Providing a focal point for community programmes and services, the facility plays an integral part in leading the future development of Hutt City and making a difference in the lives of the community. It provides a much needed centre for Hutt Valley and attracts events that benefit the local community.
Accommodating a large range of sporting codes, the new centre combines the Walter Nash Stadium, Taita Community Hall, Taita Community Library and Hutt Valley netball courts into a single integrated facility for all ages. The development provides a central administrative hub for the delivery of community based programmes, services and activities, and features:
- five indoor multi-purpose courts
- a new library
- community meeting spaces
- a community fitness centre
- cafes
- changing facilities with full accessibility
- child care room
- 11 external courts
- space for up to 205 on site car parks for large events
Operationally, the project provides improved operational functionality and a shared staff resource approach.
The new library, community meeting spaces and indoor courts enhance social, educational, sporting, lifestyle/commercial and retail opportunities in the city and immediate Taita community.
