A model for living well, together.
Faced with the challenge of creating a thriving and active retirement community, on a complex urban site, this project responds by connecting its residents to each other, and their city.
As population continues to shift toward urban living, this village offers a new model for retirement villages in Auckland. With more than 400 residents expected on site, and well served by on-site community amenity, this place will generate a density and excitement fit for its city fringe location. Its adjacency to Parnell’s train station means that it’s well placed to play its part in Auckland’s upcoming public transport transformation.
Influenced equally by the natural landscape of Auckland’s Domain and the heritage of Parnell’s built fabric, Summerset Parnell enjoys the best of both worlds. With wellbeing as a key focus, residents will enjoy being able to walk amongst the trees, and the laneways of their neighbourhood. This project knits those contexts together, becoming the threshold between the two and offering an urban outcome, softened by one of Auckland’s grandest parks.
With strong communities being the product of diversity and inclusion, this project delivers a broad range of homes including 1 bed apartments, through to 3 bed premium apartments and care facilities. Residents can enjoy their own space whilst also being able to gather together in the village’s front lounge, a centrally placed community building connecting the village with Parnell’s streets.
On-site care facilities ensure continuity of community as care requirements change. Serviced apartments, memory care and hospital care suites are all provided, enabling residents to remain within the village as they grow more dependant, harnessing the health benefits of social connection.
The result is a village that delivers high quality city fringe retirement living.
“… it’s hard to think of a better model for how to build great density, serving a local community with style and functional efficiency.” – Simon Wilson, NZ Herald
