This hybrid theatre is the first in the South Island and utilises the new innovative robotic technology of the Artis Zeego Surgical C-arm medical imaging machine and associated medical equipment. A project this advanced, in terms of technology, entailed a vast amount of forward planning and co-ordination to ensure a tight construction programme of eight weeks was achieved and executed to the highest standard. Construction took place within an existing, fully operational theatre suite with a centralised construction zone.

The theatre is designed to be used not only as a Hybrid Theatre for Radiotherapy, Endovascular and Spinal Surgery but as a conventional theatre in support of the nine other operating theatres already on the Southern Cross Hospital site. The end result is that Southern Cross Hospital now offers a facility that utilises advanced technology for the benefit of independent medical specialists and their patients.
