This high profile project was conceived when Southern Cross Hospitals and the Silverdale Medical Centre formed a joint venture partnership with the intention of providing a holistic medical provider facility to service the greater Silverdale and Orewa areas.

Warren and Mahoney was engaged from the very beginning as architect and lead consultant, and conducted feasibility studies on the large undulating ‘paddock’ to generate a brief – this subsequently determined the size and placement of the new health facility.

Completed in 2012, the two storey building sits proudly on the corner of a prominent intersection on the Hibiscus Coast Highway in Silverdale North; the sweeping form of the highway alongside the site in part influenced the facade design. The solid contextual grounding of the building is enhanced by the composition of terracotta tiles and baguettes, giving a contemporary and timeless aesthetic.

Silverdale Medical Centre contains tenancies on the ground floor for general medical, pharmacy, physio, dentist and radiology. The first floor contains a private hospital facility with four operating theatres, a day surgery, CSSD, 10-ward bedrooms, and endoscopy services.

The end result is a building that completely serves the medical needs of the immediate area, and offers a new design approach for integrated health facilities.
