Defining the Maungarei Lakes area as Stonefield’s vibrant, shared community space, this new development responds to its lakeside context.

Defining the Maungarei Lakes area as Stonefield’s vibrant, shared community space, this new development responds to its lakeside context.

Warren and Mahoney has collaborated with Templeton Group and LandLAB to create diversity and public amenity in the Stonefield’s housing community.

Our initial task was to masterplan the lake front area; the last chance to create an interface between the existing housing developments and a network of public amenity and pedestrian links to the lake area.

Lakeside One, the first stage of this masterplan, consists of 44 townhouses with a common square in the middle of the development. Site level changes between the street and the interior allow privacy as you step up half a level to terraces, removing the need for fences and breaking down barriers.

Townhouses are 3-4 storeys each unashamedly family focused with 4-6 bedrooms, generous living and flexible work from home spaces.

The materials used soften the architecture of the buildings and celebrate the transition between the existing neighbourhood and the natural environment. Soft edges encourage integration with the landscape and planters on all levels further soften the boundaries.

Warm timber, natural stone and steel cladding complement the natural heritage of this premium location. Basalt pathways reference the old quarry, bush-hammered concrete evokes a split rock texture, a reminder of the sites volcanic and industrial past.
