This new workplace strengthens the Forsyth Barr brand through a statement fitout with a modern working environment and extraordinary views.

The new Forsyth Barr workplace is located within Wellington’s CBD, a stone’s throw from Queens Wharf. Their position on Level 22 of Data Dimension House provides panoramic views of Wellington from the harbour through to the northern hills.

The 1000m2 floor plate allowed for a team of 53, together with a large client suite. This client suite was to create a distinctive experience; the layout needed to harness the stunning views and complement the outlook with elegant furnishings and finishes. Simultaneously, the front of house spaces needed to meet the technical and acoustic requirements to host conferences and seminars.

Flexible design principles have been adopted throughout. Operable walls allow meeting spaces to shift into larger conference or seminar rooms. To cater for events, a wide sliding door connects the client suite and conference room, creating a large function space.

Refined architectural planning has aided in achieving the anticipated ‘statement fitout’. By opening the space from the north-eastern perimeter right through to the south-eastern perimeter, the stunning views are showcased without disruption. The curved walls have been mirrored in the feature ceilings, floor finishes, and joinery.

The palette focuses on form and materiality, with natural limestone and curved black timber walls taking centre stage. Colour is introduced through the furniture and wall treatments. Deep teals and blues are reflective of the sea views, while the orange and soft pinks seen in the workspace reflect an evening sunset.

Prior to any design work commencing; research was conducted to unfold which business groups required location connections, which required a close link to the client suite, and what the varying acoustic requirements were. These were major factors in determining the placement of each business group across the floor, and in determining how todays typical open-plan layout could be modified to suit Forsyth Barr’s specialist requirements.
