A state-of-the-art facility that reflects the growth in the district and its commitment to leisure and community facilities.

This 8,000m² multidiscipline sports facility combines indoor netball courts, an aquatic centre and gymnasium into a single state-of-the-art building that reflects the growth in the district and its commitment to leisure and community facilities.

Situated on an old river terrace along the Ashburton River, the facility services the recreational needs of the community and is the first step to developing a recreation precinct master plan complete with outdoor cricket, hockey and rugby pitches.

The simple concept of a single linear space that houses stadium uses at one end and aquatic facilities at the other provides a cost-effective solution and allows the facility to expand in future. An expansive, glazed and well connected foyer, reception, administration and cafe block provide the public interface to the building, and the use of natural materials and glass ensures a welcoming and contemporary aspect.

The facility boasts four regulation netball courts, a gymnasium, a 25 metre 10 lane competition pool, a Learn to Swim pool, a Warm Water pool, a Leisure Pool including a Rapid River, a toddler’s pool, a Spa pool and a Steam Room. Associated changing facilities and administration ensures that the facility can cope with multi-events occurring at the same time. The pool water services and air conditioning services are integrated and co-ordinated to ensure cost-effective and efficient state-of-the-art systems are utilised.
