Vanessa Carswell rejoined Warren and Mahoney in 2009 having returned to New Zealand after 6 years working in London. She brings to the practice her skills in design and team leadership, together with experience in an array of complex large-scale projects including hospitality, residential, commercial, retail and heritage renovation. Since her return, projects have included the Christchurch Transport Interchange, the multi award-winning Isaac Theatre Royal redevelopment, and Otago University Plaza Building One.
In London, Vanessa worked for world renowned practices Nicholas Grimshaw & Partners and Allies and Morrison Architects. She contributed to various award-winning projects such as The Core building, part of the Eden Project in Cornwall, where design work was selected for exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts and the Venice Biennale.
Vanessa is a team player who has led aspects of the design and delivery of a number of large-scale projects. She held the role of project and design architect for the renovation of the Grade II listed Great Northern Hotel and King’s Cross London.
In 2016, Vanessa was named joint winner of the National Association of Women in Construction Outstanding Achievement in Design Award, and in 2020, Vanessa was appointed Property Council New Zealand South Island Branch Executive Member.
Vanessa is a registered Greenstar Practitioner.
