Hosted by Property Council New Zealand, the Property Industry Awards is the most prestigious property awards programme in New Zealand, celebrating excellence in the built environment. Warren and Mahoney was project partner for two Best in Category awards, one Excellence award and one Merit Award.
Four Warren and Mahoney projects were recognised at the Property Council New Zealand Awards last night at Spark Arena.
Originally designed by Warren and Mahoney in 1972 and restored following the earthquakes in 2018, the Christchurch Town Hall Restoration Project was the recipient of the Heritage and Adaptive Reuses Property Award. “Following extensive damage during the Christchurch earthquakes the Christchurch Town Hall has been meticulously re-constructed to not only preserve this premier performing arts venue, but further develop the facilities to improve its offering to the community. The scale and complexity of the works to the Christchurch Town Hall, make the project a deserving winner”, said the jury.
The Commercial Office Property Award Best in Category went to Defence House, Wellington. Developed by Precinct Properties and designed by Warren and Mahoney, the completion of Defence House has delivered a fully refurbished modern office building, with new services, amenities and strengthened to 100% New Zealand Building Standard.
Te Manawa Westgate Library and Community Facility received an Excellence in the Civic and Arts Property Award category. This exemplar project sets a benchmark for civic buildings, and establishes a sense of place and a core community destination within the wider precinct.
Receiving a Merit in the Tourism and Leisure Property Award, Wanaka Community Pool, is Stage Two of the Wanaka Sport and Recreation Facility which provides 2,500m2 of dry sports space and 2,000m2 of aquatic space under one roof.
The Property Awards showcase superior examples of iconic projects in property development and investment across a broad range of sectors and design disciplines, recognising outstanding projects, developments and refurbishments. Award winners are the best of the best; projects that provide an outstanding return or delivery of service potential on investment of funds, creating value for owners, tenants and the wider community.
